Sightseeing in Dalhousie

A stunning valley with a spring in the middle, while being quite beautiful, it gets littered with trash in the peak season of July when a massive number of tourists come. Known as the 'Switzerland of India' for the meadowy scenery. Khajjiar is a hill station near the town of Chamba in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, India. Located approximately 24 kilometres (15 mi) from Dalhousie, it lies on a small plateau about 2,000 meters (6,500 feet) above sea level in the foothills of the Dhauladhar ranges in the Western Himalayas. It is also part of the Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary.

It is a major district town a little distance away from Dalhousie and is the seat of the former princely State of Chamba. It has a number of attractions including a major museum, restaurants, etc. Chamba is a town in the Chamba district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary, or simply Kalatop Sanctuary, is a 30.69 km2 animal sanctuary at Kalatop and Khajjiar in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The sanctuary area is well laid out for trekking trails both at Kalatop and Khajjiar. There is a dense deodar and fir forest covering 19.63 km2 of the sanctuary, which is about 6 km from Dalhousie. Pheasants, serow and black bear are some of the common animals found here. The sanctuary lies in the path of the Ravi River, and is surrounded by coniferous and oak forests.

The Chamera Dam is a concrete gravity dam across the River Ravi, located near the town of Dalhousie, in the Chamba district in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India. A large proportion of the resultant reservoir, called Chamera Lake, lies in the Salooni sub-division of Chamba and was established for the purpose of generating hydroelectricity. The Chamera hydroelectric plants were completed in three phases in 1994, 2003 and 2012. The first plant uses conventional hydroelectric methods for generating power, whilst the second two plants use run-of-the-river methods. The combined generating capacity of the three plants is 1,071 megawatts (1.436×10^6 hp).

Bhalei Mata Temple is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Bhadra. It is located on a 3,800 feet (1,200 m) high spur in Bhalei, which is now a Sub-Tehsil headquarters. It is about 35 km from Salooni Tehsil headquarters. The temple can be approached either from Chamba or from Dalhousie and is at a distance of 40 kilometres from Chamba and 30 kilometres from Dalhousie. The deity is in the front of an image of black stone of two feet height and is enshrined in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

Khajjiar Lake is situated in Khajjiar, in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is situated at a height of around 1,951 m above sea level between Dalhousie and Chamba Town. The lake is set in a huge grassy landscape, with evergreen cedar trees surrounding it from all sides. The lake takes its name from Khajji Nag, the deity in the temple nearby. The lake has considerably shrunk over the years and is now almost on the verge of vanishing.

Kalatop Sanctuary was recognized as a game sanctuary on 1 July 1949. It lies between Dalhousie and Chamba at the northwestern extremity Daula Dhar. Dalhousie-Chamba Road runs through the sanctuary, which contains about 15 villages. In 1982-1983, there was a total of 1766 people living inside the sanctuary. This reserve covers an area of 3,069 hectares.

This is the spot (chowk means intersection) where the road from the bus stand makes a cross road between two roads to G.P.O. and the one coming in from the bus stand. It is also a fairly active market, second to G.P.O.
