Geography
River
The Ganges (Ganga) flows from the Gangotri Glacier, about 200 km upstream, and enters the plains at Haridwar.
Course
At Haridwar, the river leaves the Shivalik Hills and begins its long journey across the Gangetic Plain, with a diversion canal (Upper Ganga Canal) starting here.
Confluence
Haridwar is not a confluence point, but the Sapt Sarovar area is where the river is believed to have split into seven streams to accommodate meditating sages.

- Arrive at Har Ki Pauri at least 45 minutes before sunset to secure a good view of the Ganga Aarti.
