Devbagh sits on a narrow spit of land at the Kali river estuary, separated from the mainland and reached by a short boat crossing organised through the state-run Jungle Lodges & Resorts property based there, which offers cottages, kayaking, and snorkelling or scuba trips out toward Kurumgad and Netrani islands. The sandbar setting gives calm river water on one side and open sea on the other, making it one of the more distinctive beach environments on the Karwar coastline. Devbagh Beach sits at an elevation of 14 m and is typically explored in about half day. The most favourable months to visit are January, March, November, and February, when conditions are best suited for sightseeing. Nearby points of interest include Devbagh Beach Main Shoreline, Devbagh Beach Yoga & Meditation Deck, and Tattihole Falls. Other notable highlights include boat ride across Kali river mouth, dolphin spotting on morning safari boat, and kayaking along calm mangrove-lined backwaters. It falls within Uttara Kannada district and Karnataka, India.

Ideal Duration: Half Day

The beach has a gentle slope and calm waters during low tide, but the currents can be strong during high tide, so swimming is only advised in the marked safe zone. Lifeguards are present from 9 AM to 5 PM, and they will blow a whistle if you go too far. Seniors should avoid swimming alone and instead wade in shallow water or use the designated floatation aids provided by the resort.
The beach itself is sandy, so walking can be tiring; we suggest wearing sturdy, non-slip sandals and taking frequent rests under the shade of the casuarina trees. There is a small first-aid centre at the resort, but the nearest hospital is in Karwar (about 20 minutes away by road), so carry your regular medicines. The boat ride to the beach is short but can be bumpy on windy days, so if you have back issues, sit in the middle of the boat.
The Devbagh Beach Resort is the most convenient option, offering cottage-style rooms with attached bathrooms and a dining hall that serves simple, hygienic meals. For a more budget-friendly choice, you can stay in Karwar town (such as Hotel Amrut or KTDC Hotel) and take a day trip to the beach. The resort also has wheelchairs available on request, but you must book them in advance.
Devbagh Beach is about 12 km from Karwar town, and you can hire a taxi or auto-rickshaw for the 30-minute drive. The last stretch involves a short boat ride across the Kali River, which is flat and easy to board, but do inform the boatman if you need extra time or assistance. For seniors, we recommend arranging a private taxi with a fixed return time to avoid waiting.
October to February is ideal, with pleasant temperatures (25-30°C) and low humidity, making it comfortable for long walks. Pack light cotton clothes, a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, and a light jacket for the evening boat ride back. Avoid the monsoon months (June-September) as the boat service is often suspended and the beach becomes unsafe for walking.
