Morning

05:30 AM
Early breakfast at your hotel in Guptkashi or Sonprayag

Have a hearty vegetarian breakfast (puri-subzi, upma, or paratha) to fuel the long trek. Cost is typically included in your hotel package; if not, expect ₹100–₹200 per person. Carry a water bottle and fill it here.

06:30 AM
Drive from Guptkashi/Sonprayag to Gaurikund

Take a shared taxi or private vehicle for the 1–2 hour drive (approx. 30–40 km). Roads are winding and can be congested; start early to avoid traffic. Shared jeep costs around ₹100–₹150 per person from Sonprayag, private taxis ₹1,500–₹2,500.

08:30 AM
Arrive at Gaurikund and register for the trek

At Gaurikund, register at the forest checkpost (free) and use the washrooms. You can hire a porter or pony for luggage if needed (₹500–₹1,500 depending on weight and distance). Buy last-minute snacks and water here.

09:00 AM
Begin trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath

Start the 16–18 km trek along the Mandakini River. The first section is steep and rocky; pace yourself. Carry at least 2 liters of water and energy bars. The trail is well-marked but can be crowded—keep left.

11:30 AM
Short break at Rambara (approx. 8 km mark)

Rambara offers tea, maggi, and simple snacks at trailside stalls. A plate of maggi costs ₹60–₹80, tea ₹20–₹30. Rest for 15–20 minutes, hydrate, and take photos of the valley. Note: Rambara was rebuilt after the 2013 floods.

Afternoon

01:00 PM
Lunch break at Garud Chatti (approx. 13 km mark)

Garud Chatti has a few food stalls serving dal-chawal, roti, and sabzi. A simple thali costs ₹150–₹250. This is a good spot to recharge; the final 3–4 km to Kedarnath is the steepest. Fill water here.

04:00 PM
Arrive at Kedarnath and check into your lodge

Reach Kedarnath after 6–8 hours of trekking. Check into a pre-booked guesthouse (basic rooms cost ₹1,500–₹3,000 per night). Rest, wash up, and wear warm layers—temperatures drop sharply in the evening.

06:00 PM
Visit Kedarnath Temple for evening aarti

Attend the evening aarti (around 6–7 PM, timings vary). Darshan is free, but you can donate ₹100–₹500 for special aarti participation. Dress modestly and be prepared for long queues. Photography is prohibited inside the temple.
