Built of massive interlocking grey stone slabs without mortar, its architecture is attributed to Adi Shankaracharya, though worship here predates him by centuries. The temple remarkably survived the 2013 Uttarakhand floods, with a large boulder behind it credited with diverting the floodwater.
Bhairavnath Temple
Dedicated to Bhairav, the guardian deity of Kedarnath, this small stone shrine sits on a hillock about 500m from the main temple.
