Day 1

Trivandrum to Chettinad

Our driver picks you up from your hotel or home in Trivandrum in the morning. Drive from Thiruvananthapuram to Karaikudi (about 413 km, 8 hrs 15 min). Check in at your hotel in Karaikudi. Check in at a heritage hotel or homestay and have a proper Chettinad lunch on a banana leaf. In the afternoon, walk the streets of Kanadukathan to see the great mansions, including the Chettinad Palace from outside, and visit one of the houses open to visitors with its pillared courtyards and egg-plaster walls. Overnight stay in Karaikudi.

Day 2

Pillayarpatti, Athangudi and back to Trivandrum

Visit the Karpaga Vinayagar cave temple at Pillayarpatti, where the Ganesha is carved into the rock. Then watch the hand-made Athangudi tiles being cast at a village workshop, and browse the antique shops of Karaikudi for brass, wooden and Burmese pieces before leaving. Drive from Karaikudi to Thiruvananthapuram (about 413 km, 8 hrs 15 min), and drop at your hotel, home or the railway station in Trivandrum. The tour ends here.
