Day 1

Guwahati to Shillong

Our driver picks you up from your hotel or home in Guwahati in the morning. Drive from Guwahati to Shillong (about 99 km, 2 hrs). Check in at your hotel in Shillong. The road climbs from the Brahmaputra plains into the Khasi hills. Stop at the viewpoint over Umiam Lake, the big reservoir ringed by pine hills just before Shillong. After checking in, walk around Ward's Lake and spend the evening in Police Bazaar, the busy centre of the town. Overnight stay in Shillong.

Day 2

Dawki and Shnongpdeng

Today's travel: from Shillong to Dawki (about 81 km, 1 hr 30 min), from Dawki to Shnongpdeng (about 12 km, 30 min) and from Shnongpdeng to Shillong (about 93 km, 2 hrs). Leave early for Dawki, see the old suspension bridge and the border post at Tamabil, then go upstream to Shnongpdeng, a Jaintia village on a wide bend of the river. Spend the day on the water: a boat ride over the clear green pools, kayaking, snorkelling or a cliff jump for the brave, and lunch on the riverbank. Back to Shillong in the evening. Overnight stay in Shillong.

Day 3

Krang Suri Falls and Nartiang monoliths

Today's travel: from Shillong to Jowai (about 57 km, 1 hr) and from Jowai to Shillong (about 58 km, 1 hr 15 min). Drive east into the Jaintia hills. Krang Suri is a waterfall that falls into a blue pool you can swim in (life jackets on hire). On the way back, see the Nartiang monoliths, a field of tall standing stones raised by the Jaintia kings, and Thadlaskein Lake near Jowai. Overnight stay in Shillong.

Day 4

Shillong to Guwahati

Drive from Shillong to Guwahati (about 99 km, 2 hrs), and drop at your hotel, home or the railway station in Guwahati. The tour ends here.
