Kedarnath Temple
One of the twelve Jyotirlingas and a key stop on the Chota Char Dham and Panch Kedar circuits, this ancient Shiva temple stands at 3,583m in the Garhwal Himalayas. Built of massive interlocking grey stone slabs without mortar, its architecture is attributed to Adi Shankaracharya, though worship here predates him by centuries. The temple remarkably survived the 2013 Uttarakhand floods, with a large boulder behind it credited with diverting the floodwater.
Bhairavnath Temple
Dedicated to Bhairav, the guardian deity of Kedarnath, this small stone shrine sits on a hillock about 500m from the main temple. It is customary to visit this temple before the Kedarnath shrine opens and after it closes for the winter, as Bhairav is believed to protect the region when the main deity is moved to Ukhimath. The temple offers panoramic views of the Kedarnath valley and the Mandakini river.
