Drive through the sal forests of Mandla district to Kanha and check in near the Khatia gate. Go on the afternoon jeep safari: Kanha's open meadows are the best place to see the hard-ground barasingha, the swamp deer saved from extinction here, along with gaur, chital, wild dogs and the tiger. Overnight stay in Kanha (Khatia gate).
