Day 1

Indore to Shimla

Reach Kalka by train from Indore, where our driver meets you. Drive from Kalka to Shimla (about 96 km, 2 hrs). Check in at your hotel in Shimla. The road climbs from Kalka through pine-covered hills; stop for a snack at Dharampur or Solan. Check in and walk up to the Mall Road and the Ridge in the evening, when the town lights come on. Vehicles are not allowed on the Mall, so wear comfortable shoes. Overnight stay in Shimla.

Day 2

Kufri and Fagu

Drive to Kufri, about 16 km away. Ponies take you up the muddy track to Mahasu Peak (agree the fare first), and in winter there are snow activities. Visit the Himalayan Nature Park and stop at Green Valley viewpoint on the way back. The evening is free on the Mall. Overnight stay in Shimla.

Day 3

Chail and Jakhoo

Morning visit to the Jakhoo Temple on the highest point of Shimla; keep glasses and food out of reach of the monkeys. Then drive to Chail, about 45 km away, to see the Maharaja of Patiala's palace and one of the highest cricket grounds in the world, before returning to Shimla. Overnight stay in Shimla.

Shimla to Indore

Visit the Viceregal Lodge (Indian Institute of Advanced Study), where the Simla Agreement and Partition talks took place, before leaving. Guided tours run through the day except on Mondays. Drive from Shimla to Kalka (about 93 km, 2 hrs). Board the train from Kalka back to Indore (about 1,005 km), and the tour ends.
