Day 2

Day 1

Board a forest department jeep for an exciting safari through the dry deciduous forest. Look out for tigers, elephants, gaurs, and deer. The cost is approximately ₹700-₹1,200 per person (plus ₹200 camera fee if applicable). Book in advance online or at the reception centre.

Reach viewpoints along the Moyar River gorge, which forms the natural boundary with Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (across the border in Tamil Nadu). The deep canyon and the river below are dramatic. Look out for crocodiles, elephants, and birds. There are no formal entry fees, but some viewpoints may have small parking charges.

Transportation Tips

NH-766 (Mysuru-Ooty highway) passes through the core reserve; it is closed to night traffic from 9 PM to 6 AM—plan your arrival and departure accordingly.
The nearest major railhead is Mysuru (about 80 km), and the nearest airport is Mysuru Airport (MYQ) or Calicut (Kozhikode) for international access. Hire a private cab from Mysuru or take a KSRTC bus to Gundlupet then a local taxi.
Within Bandipur, forest department jeeps are the only permitted vehicles for safaris; private vehicles are not allowed in core zones. Book safaris in advance at the reception centre or online.
For Gopalaswamy Betta and Moyar viewpoints, a private vehicle with a driver is recommended as public transport is scarce; ensure your vehicle has a valid entry permit if entering forest areas (obtain from forest checkposts).
