History

1956

With the linguistic reorganisation of states, the Malayalam-speaking regions of Malabar and Travancore-Cochin were integrated into the State of Kerala on 1 November 1956.

1996

According to the Human Development Report of 1996, Kerala's Gender Development Index was 597; higher than any other state of India.
