Overview

Lonavala-Khandala, a hill station and municipal council in Pune district, Maharashtra, lies about 64 km west of Pune and 96 km east of Mumbai. It is famous for its production of the hard candy chikki and serves as a major stop on the Mumbai-Pune railway line, with local trains available from Pune Junction. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway and national highway both pass through Lonavala, and the town is also home to INS Shivaji, the Indian Navy's premier technical training institute.
