Plan your trip around Deepotsav (October-November) to witness the record-breaking lamp-lighting ceremony, but book accommodations and transport well in advance as the city gets extremely crowded.
Wear modest, comfortable clothing and carry a change of clothes if you intend to take a ritual dip in the Saryu. Always respect local customs, such as removing shoes before entering temple areas.
Combine your visit to the ghats with the key temples: Hanuman Garhi (traditionally the first stop), Ram Mandir, Kanak Bhawan, and Dashrath Mahal. All are within a few kilometers of the riverfront.
Hire a local boat for a peaceful ride along the Saryu at sunset, offering a unique perspective of the ghats and the illuminated temples. Bargain for a fair price and prefer licensed boat operators.
