About Eachanari Vinayagar Temple

Eachanari Vinayagar Temple sits on the Coimbatore–Pollachi highway, about 9 km from the city, and is one of the best-known Vinayagar shrines in Tamil Nadu. Its story begins with a Vinayagar image six feet tall and three feet wide that was being carried by bullock cart from Madurai to the Patteeswarar temple at Perur. At this spot the cart’s axle snapped.

Once the cart was mended, no amount of effort could lift the image back on, so the people of the area built a small platform and began worshipping Vinayagar where he had come to rest. Devotees came to believe in his power, the shrine grew over the years with repeated renovations, and today it is a large temple with a three-tier rajagopuram facing east.
