About Thiruverkadu Karumariamman Temple
Thiruverkadu Devi Karumariamman Temple, on Chennai’s western edge, is one of the city’s most visited goddess shrines. Karumariamman sits facing east. Thiruverkadu is the 23rd Thevaram shrine of the Thondai country and the birthplace of Moorkha Nayanar, one of the 63 Nayanmars.
Around the sanctum, the first prakaram holds Valampuri Vinayagar, Srinivasa Perumal, the Navagrahas, Verkanni Amman, Murugan and Marasilai Amman, and the second has Dakshinamurthy and Angala Parameswari. Unusually, the shrine never closes in the middle of the day.
