    Triveni Sangam

    The meeting point of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati. Follow the customary order: take the holy dip at the ghat first, then the boat ride to the confluence where the boatmen point out the different colours of the waters. Allow about two hours for the dip, boat and ghat.

    Allahabad Fort and Akshayavat

    The massive Akbar-era fort by the Yamuna, entered through a gate near the Sangam. Inside, the Akshayavat is an ancient banyan tree held sacred, with the Patalpuri Temple below. The fort is a working army area, so only parts are open; carry ID and check entry on the day. About an hour and a half.

    A relaxed lunch break in Civil Lines, where local eateries serve North Indian thalis and simple vegetarian meals. Take your time; the afternoon sights are a short drive away.

    Anand Bhavan

    The ancestral home of the Nehru family, now a museum with the rooms of Motilal and Jawaharlal Nehru preserved, old photographs and the adjoining Swaraj Bhavan. It gives a real sense of the freedom movement in this city. Plan about an hour and a half; museums here close by late afternoon, so go straight in.

    Khusro Bagh

    A large walled Mughal garden with the tombs of Khusro, Shah Begum and Nithar Begum, known for its sandstone architecture and quiet walks. It is a peaceful late-afternoon stop and a short drive from the station. Allow about an hour.

    Alopi Devi Temple

    A well-known Shakti temple in Alopibagh, where the deity is worshipped as a small wooden cradle rather than an idol. The temple reopens in the late afternoon after its midday break, so this is a good time for darshan. Allow about 45 minutes.
