Overview
- •The trek begins at Katra (Reasi district), the base town located about 48 km from Jammu and connected by road and rail.
- •The route rises gently but steadily through the Trikuta Hills, passing significant landmarks such as Banganga (where the goddess created a stream with an arrow), Charan Paduka (footprints of the goddess), and Ardhkuwari (a cave at the halfway point where the goddess meditated for nine months).
- •The final stretch leads to the Bhawan, the main cave shrine housing three natural rock formations (pindies) representing Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi, and Maha Saraswati.
- •After darshan, pilgrims traditionally continue about 2.5 km to the Bhairavnath Temple, as the yatra is considered incomplete without paying respects there.
- •The entire route is paved, well-lit, and open year-round, managed by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
